Luna Landing

Luna Landing 9
One giant leap....
Derby Number:
#9
Retired
How long have you been skating?:
Joined the Dolls in August 2009. Prior to that I used to spend all summer on my skates way back in the early 80s in the days of chopper bikes.
What does your derby name mean to you?:
Something about small steps and giant leaps - all good skills for roller derby! Luna 9 was the Soviet spacecraft that was the first to land successfully on the moon. I guess I just love the moon. And alliteration.
Your Derby Story:

I joined with 3 of my oldest friends (now Bob, Roxy and Jet) August 2009 and we are all still in the league. With work and kids it is easy to lose touch with people and we all got a lot closer training regularly and supporting each other. My derby highlight will always be our first intraleague together.

Leeds Roller Dolls are a fantastic community and aside from the awesome skating we do a lot of other great stuff. Last year (my 40th) I went to some fantastic bootcamps, rowed 10 miles down Windermere, skated a marathon, supported the team in some incredible bouts, and played roller derby to 400 people in my home town at The Great Yorkshire Showdown.

The league is going from strength to strength and working on the Newbie Committee I just love the enthusiasm of new skaters when they discover the sport. There is nothing like bashing your teammates to give confidence and a renewed sense of purpose!
