New Captains, New Team Names,

LRD gets the 2012 season rolling with some exciting announcements.

On Sunday, we held our AGM, voted in new captains and new team names, ushering in a new era for Leeds Roller Dolls as we face some exciting bouts in 2012 (more on that to come soon, we promise!)

We now have a slightly different league structure in place and our awesome second team, The Whip-Its now have their own permanent captain and vice-captain. We also now have a new name for our first team. Last season, they simply skated as Leeds Roller Dolls but to differentiate between the two teams, the first team are now THE REBEL ROSES, in homage to the Yorkshire Rose, of course.

So… drum roll please…!

Our League Captain and Captain of The Rebel Roses is Magic 8-Brawl.

Magic (or Madge to her nearest & dearest) has already done a huge amount for LRD – in the 2011 season, she was the chair of our board and she also works tirelessly on our training committee. And trust me, you do not want to be on the receiving end of one of her booty blocks!

Our League Vice-Captain and Captain of the Whip-Its is Killaroo.

Don’t be fooled by that butter-wouldn’t-melt demeanour, ‘Roo is a slippery character - a great jammer. We’re never too sure if she gets around us, or nips through our legs when we’re not looking but she’s never stuck in a pack for long…

The Rebel Roses Vice Captain is Hydra Electric.

Another LRD member who works tirelessly to keep the league running, our new vice captain is fast becoming a double threat – a fearsome blocker and a super-agile jammer.

And our Whip-its Vice Captain is Fran Grenade

We’re not sure which is more intimidating, Fran Grenade’s positional blocking or her extreme organisational skills. But we’re fairly certain she’ll be using both to keep those Whip-Its in check this season.

Finally, a huge thank you to last season’s League Captain, Bruise ‘Em Banshee and Rigor Morris for guiding us through 2011. Both skaters remain highly valued members of the Rebel Roses and all of their hard work and influence over the last 12 months has put both teams in a fantastic position for 2012.
