The Great Yorkshire Showdown 2011! Tournament - Home - 02/04/2011
After the massive success in October 2010, Leeds Roller Dolls were delighted to host their second tournament THE GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOWDOWN 2011!!!
The LRD Whip-Its were ready to battle it out with the following 5 other Derby Teams
Rainy City Roller Girls Tender Hooligans
Liverpool Roller Birds
Manchester Roller Derby
Dolly Rockit Rollers
Hot Wheel Roller Derby
.... with fewer teams but more action, this was an amazing day of Derby!
Two groups drawn and the first 6 1/2 hour bouts saw the 3 team per group, square up on track to battle it out for those two precious Final spots. With some outstanding Derby and plenty of standout moments Leeds Whip-Its and Manchester Roller Derby won two bouts a piece to guarantee themselves a spot in the final full length bout!
The first half saw the two teams consistently level pegging in a tense display of great tactics, spectacular jamming and solid pack work. However come the half time whistle the home team were pulling ahead with a score of 60 to MRD's 47. The second half saw MRD gain further points and really stretch those Derby skills in some great power jams, LRD put in a few power jams of their own and held a strong consistent game. MRD never gave up and and pursued LRD lead right to the end, however the Whip-its put up a fearsome fight with some impenetrable walls and streamed ahead finally winning the day 142 to 84!
