Feral Fairy: keeping things thermal in Toronto
The groups have been announced for the first ever Roller Derby World Cup. This exciting Derby event is being held in Toronto from 1 - 4 December; and there is a real buzz about Team England after London's amazing play in the regionals earlier this year.
Skaters across the country have been training hard and our very own Feral Fairy is in the Team England squad. We caught up with her to find out how she is preparing for the trip to Toronto.
How did you feel when you found out you were on team England?
Shocked, ecstatic...I just couldn't believe it, I still have to remind
myself it is real, I will actually be part of Roller Derby history
because I will be skating in the first EVER Roller Derby World Cup. It
is unreal!
What have you added into your fitness regime to prepare for the
Tournament?
Nothing at first, I found out I made it just as I got to Manchester
Airport to fly to Las Vegas and after I got back I took a month off from
doing anything other than scheduled League training, I had been working so hard for tryouts I just felt burnt out.
My new training regime kicked in at the beginning of September, I
updated my gym programme and started attending extra skate sessions.
My new regime looks a little like this:
Monday - Rest Day
Tuesday - 6.30am-8.30am Gym/7-9pm LRD Training
Wednesday - Roller Derby Workout
Thursday - 6.30am-8.30am Gym/8-10pm LRD Training
Friday - Rest Day
Saturday - 8am-10am Gym
Sunday - 8am-10am Gym/1-2pm Scrimmage with Hot Wheels/3-6pm LRD Training
Are there any great Derby Players you are hoping to meet?
I'm want to meet all of Team USA and Lil' Mama from Montreal!
Other than your Skating kit what is the one essential you will be taking over to Canada?
Thermals!!! It isn't rock 'n' roll but I can't stand the cold, not sure
how I am going to cope.
