Photon Torpedo

I hadn't been on skates for about a decade when I read an awesome article in the guardian about Roller Derby. I'd been looking for something a bit different to do to keep fit for a while, and I'd loved being on skates as a kid, so before lunch hour was over (and before I lost my nerve!) I'd already googled my nearest team and sent off an email to the lovely Leeds Roller Dolls.

I still remember my first session, stumbling around learning how to fall safely, whilst watching everyone else speeding around the track and wondering exactly what I'd got myself into! Still, by the time I left that Sunday, utterly knackered but massively excited I'd been well and truly bitten by the derby bug.

Its hard work, and I still wake up achey the morning after practice, but the satisfaction you feel at the end of an awesome scrimmage, and the massive love and support that comes with being part of a team is totally worth it. Now I can't imagine a life without Roller Derby, and absolutely love being a Leeds Roller Doll.

Plus I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching someones reaction when I explain what exactly I've been up to at the weekend!
