Iola Rolla

Iola Rolla 33
Derby Number:
#33
Rebel Roses Travel Team
How long have you been skating?:
I joined LRD in November 2009. Before that I indulged in a little roller bootin' back in the 80's with my sis. We'd be out on the street all day, only going home when our stoppers had fallen off.
What does your derby name mean to you?:
It's just a play on my name. But make sure you pronounce it right.
What's your best move/technique?:
I'm quite powerful for a small person - so don't underestimate me. I do also love a speed lap.
What's your favourite roller derby anthem/tunes to skate to?:
I never remember hearing any music when I'm skating. I must be too focused on the action.
Favourite roller derby quote?:
I always love it when Banshee calls Ass-Sassin, Assassinator by mistake in practice and everyone's giggling and Banshee has no idea what she's done.
Your Derby Story:

I found derby by accident really.
I've always been active and in to sport and was looking for something new to keep me fit. The credit has to go to my partner in crime, Zoe. She mentioned skating with some roller dolls although I didn't really know what it was at that stage.

I enjoyed skating and knew it was something I would stick at.
LRD was just starting to bloom and we were training at moorlands school then. I can't believe we used to practice in that small space. It took me a couple of months to really get in to it and grasp the rules.

I'm a competitive person and I love the adrenaline and excitement a 2 minute jam gives you.

We have an amazing group of girls in the league which is one of the reasons we all love it so much.
I'm always facinated by the cross section of ladies we have in the league and how being a doll is like having an alter-ego.
